Progeny: How to Pass On Your Story Values and Meaning (Master Class, Feb/Mar 2016)
I am inviting a cohort of 20 parents who want to help each other succeed in what is arguably the most important role we will ever experience as human beings.
This is what Dr. Marshall Goldsmith (#1 Leadership and Management Thinker in the World, recognized by Thinkers50 this year) has recently discovered in a major research project involving more than 200 high-potential leaders from 120 companies around the world:
“You may work for a wonderful company, and you may think that your contribution to that organization is very important. When you are 95 years old and you look at the people around your deathbed, very few of your fellow employees will be waving good-bye. Your friends and family will probably be the only people who care. Appreciate them now and share a large part of your life with them.”
Progeny is an 8-week, live, dynamic, and interactive online master class for parents committed to passing to their children a legacy far more valuable than financial security, self-esteem, and good health: a love for life, a story and values worth living, the freedom to be unique, and the capacity to find meaning and make a difference, to name a few aspirations.
I have seen it a thousand times. Parents wake up one day and realize something very, very painful, “Oh no! Years have gone by and I did not pass the magic of life to my child.” Or worse, they grow numb and never go there.
Most parents try to address this call to deep parenting by:
- Working harder (less sleep)
- Working smarter (more parenting books)
- Working to feel less (more distractions and addictions)
- Working to feel positive (desperately reaching out to their children)
- Working to find a church or another institution to do it for them (more despair)
- Working to save their children from such institutions (more isolation)
These pathways are as exhausting as they are futile.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
The way forward could be simple, light, and true.
